Encounter – Providence Christian Academy

I spent the 2nd week in September speaking at the Encounter Week for the Providence Christian Academy, which is located in Snellville, Georgia. Every year this Christian High School holds a 5 day retreat as a sort of Spiritual launching point for the rest of the semester, a really great event and I’m so glad I got to be a part of it. It was held at Sharptop in North Georgia which is an incredible facility… you know it’s not your normal ‘camp site’ experience, when on the second night they have ‘steak night’. glory.

I preached 8 sessions total over the 5 days, which was a lot, but gave me time to develop two main themes. The first 3 sessions where with the Seniors only (about 100 or so), so we went a little deeper, using Jesus’ Baptism in Mark 1, and the affirmation the Father gives the Son ‘You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased’ as a key text to talk about Identity… who do you say God is? and who does God say you are? The last sessions where with the whole High School and in a few different ways we explored what Spiritual growth and maturity actually looks like, that the call on Disciples is not just to cross the line of salvation, but to actually grow and become more like Christ.

Anyway, it was a great few days, so blessed to have been a part of the week and hopeful that seeds where planted that will bear fruit in the future. One of my good friends Aaron Keyes lead worship for the whole week, so spending time with him and his band made this event a double blessing.

Here’s a link to a blog written by one of the students, she talks about my teaching a lot, was great to read some of the testimony of what God was speaking… (it’s the article ‘Encounter Changed Us’, you may have to scroll down a little).
